The Role:

Oviva is seeking a highly motivated and patient-centered General Practitioner with a strong interest in supporting individuals with obesity to join our Weight Management Services. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our expanding team, with the potential to transition to a permanent position if the service continues to grow as anticipated.  You will be a member of the consultant-led weight management MDT, delivering medical assessments and treatment; this includes the prescription of novel injectable obesity treatments, including Wegovy. The role will involve in-house liaison with other medical and non-medical members of the MDT plus acting as a point of contact for our primary care colleagues. 

Whilst prior experience in the prescription of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) is preferable, we will provide comprehensive training and ongoing supervision to ensure you develop the necessary competencies for safe and effective GLP1-RA prescribing and management. This includes training on clinical obesity management and the medications themselves. With success in this role, you could pursue further development opportunities within Oviva.

The role will report to the Medical Director.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a digital platform to efficiently and thoroughly assess patient eligibility and suitability for GLP-1 RA therapy, adhering to national and local guidelines

  • Maintain accurate records, audits and patient tracking within expected time frames and adhering to professional codes of conduct

  • Effectively manage your caseload and time to achieve optimal clinical effectiveness while prioritising patient safety. Respond to urgent clinical matters as needed and know when to signpost or escalate to the consultant endocrinologists or the MDT if beyond your own scope.

  • Work closely with the administrative and dietetic teams to ensure a smooth patient journey - from onboarding to discharge.

  • Liaise with our primary care colleagues as needed

  • Provide cross-cover for other programmes, such as T2DR and/or other tasks within our weight management services as needed

  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to work, willingly adapting to changing priorities and unforeseen challenges

Essential:

  • Strong interest in supporting people living with obesity

  • Qualified GP with GMC registration, license to practice and at least one year post-CCT experience. 

  • Full eligibility to live/ work in the UK

  • Ability to demonstrate resilience and thrive in an innovative and rapidly changing environment

  • .Ability to organise and prioritise workload

  • Able to commit to a minimum of 4 sessions per week (Mon-Saturday)

    Desirable:

  • Prior experience in the prescription of GLP-1 RA medication in either diabetes or obesity treatment.

  • Good knowledge of research and recent developments relevant to obesity care

  • An interest in digitally-enabled care and innovative models
